Back home, I sat on the sofa, smoking.

The ashtray filled up, yet I didn't move. Not until the sound of a key turning came from the door. Sophia was back.

She had changed into clean clothes and was carrying breakfast. Seeing me, she clearly froze. "Jack? Aren't you... coming back tomorrow?" Her eyes darted away, daring not to meet mine.
